Building a Framework for Successful Mathematics Instruction
for Grades 1-5
Four Frame Mathematics is:
- A framework for planning instruction
- The deliberate "chunking" of time to more effectively deliver and assess instruction and learning in mathematics
- A balanced instructional guide designed to use a variety of effective materials to insure all children become mathematical thinkers
The Four Frames are:
- Every Day Counts Calendar Math: Preview - Instruction - Review of Skills and Concepts
- Problem of the Day: Daily Inclusion modeled and independent problem solving
- Direct Instruction: Allied to state's standards - using best practices
- Perfect Practice: Practice in skills previously taught to increase automaticity and fluency
Each Frame Contains:
- Multiple methods and strategies
- Concrete models - supporting understanding of mathematics concepts
- A variety of instructional opportunities from whole class to partner and small group activities
- Connections between frames to aid students in the application of mathematical knowledge
- A menu of instructional options
